Bantu knots—big curls without heat

On Pinterest lately there have been several pins about using bantu knots to curl your hair without heat.  I came across the tutorial below and had to try it out. I love to curl my hair but I do not like the effect the heat has on it. I also like lots of volume in my hair for my big hairdos but I don’t tease my hair. So I thought that this would be a great way to accomplish both and not have to use any heat.

The other night I decided to try it. There are no photos of me with my hair up in knots, though my husband wanted to take some very badly and kept calling me Shirley Temple :)

Here are my bantu knot results (please forgive the wild-eyed expressions in the photos—my hair was out of control!):

All the knots taken out, about to separate the curls.

After the curls were separated. Soooooo much volume and curls! I almost couldn’t do anything with it. This would be adorable on a little girl, but not on a 23 year old ;)  My hair was so curly I lost at least 12 inches of length.

Finally in an attempt to regain some control over my unruly, quite curly locks, I fought and got my hair up into a curly bun.

If I do this again, I will use much larger sections of hair for the knots/buns so that my hair will not be as curly.
